415 citations issued during seat belt campaign

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police in Rhode Island issued 415 citations during a recent campaign to encourage seat belt use.

State police said Tuesday that the citations were issued for motorists who weren't buckled up or who failed to follow child restraint laws.

The "Click it or Ticket" began Sept. 23 and ran through Sunday.

During the same period, state police patrols issued 405 citations for other violations, investigated 87 motor vehicle accidents, arrested 11 drivers for drunken driving and helped 98 motorists in need of assistance.

State law allows police to pull over and ticket motorists who aren't buckled up.
