PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Another day of oppressive heat is forecast in Rhode Island, with temperatures expected to approach 100 and high humidity making it feel even hotter.
The National Weather Service says temperatures on Friday are expected in the upper 90s to 100 degrees. The heat index is expected to hit as much as 110 degrees.
It's issued an excessive heat warning for much of the area until 7 p.m. Friday.
All regular RIPTA buses and trolleys are free Friday because of an air quality alert. State officials warn the air will be unhealthy due to elevated ground-level ozone concentrations. They're encouraging people to limit driving and help reduce air pollution.
