Army Special Forces training in RI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island's Fort Adams is returning to military service this week as Army special forces soldiers use the state park for a training exercise.

The Rhode Island National Guard says the training will include special forces soldiers from the state National Guard as well as an aviation support unit from New York and a local Naval explosive ordinance disposal unit.

The exercises will include soldiers sliding down ropes from helicopters and using inflatable boats in water training. The practice is meant to help the special forces soldiers hone their ability to rapidly enter and leave an area.

Soldiers are now taking part in preliminary training, with the larger exercises scheduled for Tuesday.
