Artist sought to paint official Chafee portrait

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The state is looking for an artist to paint an official portrait of Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee).

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts on Tuesday issued a call for artists interested in painting a portrait for the Democratic governor.

Chafee is not running for a second term, and his term will end in January 2015.

Artists interest in being considered have until Jan. 10 to submit an application and samples of their work through an online application.

Rhode Island Gubernatorial Portrait Commission will sort through the applicants and forward up to 10 finalists to Chafee.

The governor will choose from that list.

The state will pay up to $15,000 for the work.
