Construction Relocates Newport Court Cases

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) _ The majority of court cases in Newport are being relocated because of a construction at the city's judicial complex.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Suttle has ordered cases transferred from the Superior, District and Family courts to courthouses in Washington, Kent and Providence counties.  The move is needed while workers demolish and rebuild the cellblock at the Florence K. Murray Judicial Complex.

Only emergency matters will be heard in Newport until September.

The Newport Daily News reports that while most criminal cases are moving to Wakefield, thet the murder trial of Zachary Lepelusa will be held in Kent County Superior Court.

Lepelusa, of Milford, Conn., is accused of the March, 2011 fatal stabbing 35-year-old Antoinette Bruce, of East Haven, Conn., outside a hotel in Middletown.
