EDC, RI Foundation partner on boosting economy

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The state's economic development agency is partnering with the Rhode Island Foundation to get more ideas from businesses on how to improve the economy.

The Economic Development Corp. and the foundation plan to hold workshops through the end of the year to jumpstart discussions in eight key sectors. They include arts and culture; biotech and public health; tourism and hospitality; and technology and software. The other categories are manufacturing; logistics; finance, insurance and real estate; and agriculture and aquaculture.

An EDC spokeswoman says the work will contribute to an economic development planning process known as RhodeMap RI, which is already underway in the state Division of Planning.

The Rhode Island Foundation is providing $75,000 to support the collaboration.
