Ex-Johnston Officer Gets Probation in Break-In

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — A Johnston police officer fired last year after being accused of breaking into a Warwick home while off-duty and threatening to kill the residents has been sentenced to probation.

A Superior Court judge gave a suspended prison sentence and probation Tuesday to 24-year-old Marisa Ciccone of North Providence, who pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault and trespassing. She had faced a felony assault charge.

A resident of the Warwick home told police Ciccone had a drug problem and barged into his home looking for money, drugs and a teenager who owed her money. Police say Ciccone also punched a 17-year-old girl.

Ciccone's boyfriend, James Fortin, was with her during the break-in and also was sentenced to probation.

Ciccone's lawyer called the case "nonsense," but said she made bad decisions.
