NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Family and friends will be gathering in Newport for the funeral for Nuala Pell, wife of the late U.S. Sen. Claiborne Pell of Rhode Island.
The private service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Nuala Pell's relatives say her health was failing when she died April 13 at the age of 89. She was active in politics in her later years and was will her grandson, Clay Pell, and his wife, figure skater Michelle Kwan, when he announced he was running for governor in January.
The Newport Daily News reports the guest list for the funeral includes Rhode Island's congressional delegation and Gov. Lincoln Chafee. Vice President Joe Biden, a close friend of the Pells, has a scheduling conflict and is not expected to attend.
