Injured Newport Falcon Released, Returns to Family

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — A young injured peregrine falcon has been nursed back to health and released to its nest on the decommissioned aircraft carrier Saratoga at Pier 1 at the Naval Station Newport.

The bird's flight confirmed that it was part of a family nesting on the Saratoga.

The Newport Daily News reports that photographers using telescopic lenses and members of the Born to be Wild Nature Center in Westerly using binoculars scanned the carrier for signs of the newly reunited family.

Vivian Maxson, president of the nature center, which cared for the bird, said reuniting the bird is the best work the center does.

She said the young peregrine was injured while it was chasing another bird and flew into the rigging of a vessel.
