SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a drunken head-on crash in South Kingstown that killed a 53-year-old woman, whose 1-year-old granddaughter also was in her car but survived.

James Mulcahey of Richmond was sentenced Wednesday in Washington County Superior Court after pleading guilty to DUI death resulting in connection with the wreck on Route 2 that killed Donna Eddy of Warwick in August 2012.

Eddy's daughter, Sarah Eddy, scolded Mulcahey during the sentencing hearing, calling him a coward who lacked remorse. She said the wrong person died in the crash.

Mulcahey declined to address the Eddy family in court. His lawyer said he extended Mulcahey's condolences to the victim's relatives.

Mulcahey was ordered to report to prison April 23.
