PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Authorities say a man whose 38-foot boat caught fire near the entrance to the Sakonnet River in Narragansett Bay was picked up by rescue crews and a good Samaritan.
The Coast Guard says the man called watchstanders Saturday afternoon in Providence to say he was abandoning ship for his dinghy. About 15 minutes later, the good Samaritan rescued him. He was later evaluated by a Coast Guard medical technician and released.
The Coast Guard says the boat sunk while firefighters were fighting the fire.
It's not clear what started the fire. The Coast Guard is investigating.
