PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The newly elected House speaker says his choice for chief of staff is the clerk of the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal.
House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello said this morning that Leo Skenyon will be his top aide.
The Cranston Democrat says Skenyon knows politics and has the ability to hit the ground running. Mattiello, who is an attorney, says he has worked with Skenyon in the traffic court and "he's always been professional, accommodating, helpful and liked by a lot of folks."
Mattiello was elected speaker Tuesday after the abrupt resignation of Gordon Fox, whose Statehouse office and home were raided by federal and state authorities last week.
Fox's chief of chief, Frank Anzeveno, stepped down this week, saying he thought Mattiello would want to bring in his own staff.
