PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) _ Pawtucket is making changes to its recycling program with a new less-frequent pickup schedule and wheelable carts.
Beginning the first week of August, the city will no longer offer weekly pickup of recyclable materials. Collection will instead be every other week.
The changes are part of Pawtucket's move to privatized sanitation services. The city has contracted with MTG Disposal of Seekonk, Mass.
Residents will also be asked to use new recycling carts that are being distributed starting in July. A truck with an automated arm will pick up and empty the carts.
City officials say the carts will better accommodate the state's new single-stream recycling policy, under which residents no longer have to sort glass, plastic and cardboard into separate containers.
