Pedestrian killed while walking on I-95 is ID'd

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A man killed while walking on Interstate 95 over the weekend has been identified as a 25-year-old resident of Providence.

Police say Emmanuel Martinez, a native of Brockton, Mass., was struck around 4:40 a.m. Sunday while walking in the center lane of I-95 South in Pawtucket, near the line with Providence. He was then struck by another vehicle and declared dead at the scene.

Police are investigating what he was doing on the highway. He is the fourth person killed since September while walking on Providence-area highways.

Twenty-year-old Conner Forsythe, of Scituate, was charged with driving under the influence resulting in death. He made an initial appearance in court on Monday and was released on $20,000 surety bail.

Forsythe's lawyer, Paul DiMaio, calls it tragic but would not otherwise comment.
