Providence to release bicycling master plan

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Providence Mayor Angel Taveras is preparing to release a new bicycling master plan for the capital city.

The mayor will be joined by members of the Providence Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission for the release of the blueprint on Tuesday.

The plan expands the citywide bicycling network, sets priorities for bicycling improvements, promotes a bike-friendly culture and guides investment of future funding for bike infrastructure. The city's original bike plan from the early 2000s focused on signing and striping bike corridors.

The period for public comment on the plan will run through Nov. 22.

The project is funded by a grant from the Rhode Island Division of Planning.

The city recently solicited proposals for a bike-share program.
