PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Brown University's School of Public Health has received a $1 million grant to launch a center to improve long-term care for the elderly.

The grant to establish the Long Term Care Quality and Innovation Center is from the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living.

The center will research and test best practices that improve long-term and post-acute care with the aim of turning them into training programs that can be implemented at skilled nursing centers.

The center will be housed at the Centers for Gerontology and Healthcare Research at Brown. Vincent Mor, a professor of health services, policy and practice, will be the director.

The center is designed to be self-sustaining after three to five years.
