CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) _ The state Department of Corrections has begun a recruiting drive intended to lead to 50 corrections officers graduating next spring from the training academy.
Starting pay is $45,506 a year, but first-year correctional officers often work overtime.
The Providence Journal reports that the application period is open until Sept. 24 and academy training will run from March 31 to May 30.
Applicants must be high school graduates or have a GED and be fluent in English. They must be at least 18 years old, have valid photo identification and a Social Security card or alien registration card. They do not have to be residents of Rhode Island.
The selection process includes written and video examinations, a psychological assessment and medical examination.
