PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Roman Catholic bishop of Providence says he's "a little bit disappointed" that Pope Francis hasn't addressed abortion since being elected six months ago.
Bishop Thomas Tobin made the remarks during an interview published last week in the newspaper Rhode Island Catholic.
Tobin told the newspaper that "many people have noticed" the pope has not said much about unborn children.
He says it would be helpful if Pope Francis would more directly address what he calls "the evil of abortion" and to encourage those involved in the anti-abortion movement.
Francis has made few direct remarks about abortion, marriage and other culture war issues. That has prompted concerns from some Catholics but been welcomed by others who see it as rejuvenating for the church.
