HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut judge has rescinded an order to transfer a disabled woman who set a fire that killed 16 people from a state psychiatric hospital to a Rhode Island nursing home, which says it never agreed to accept her.
Judge Joan Alexander on Wednesday canceled the order she issued Monday approving the transfer of Leslie Andino from Connecticut Valley Hospital to Berkshire Place Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Providence. The Connecticut hospital requested the move.
Connecticut officials say there was a misunderstanding. Berkshire Place's administrator says he decided a week and a half ago that his facility couldn't meet Andino's needs.
Andino set a 2003 fire that killed 16 fellow patients at Greenwood Health Center in Hartford. She was declared incompetent to stand trial and committed to Connecticut Valley Hospital.
