WARWICK, R.I. (AP) _ Rhode Island's licensing system for architects, engineers, real estate agents and many other professionals is moving to the Internet.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee announced the online licensing system Thursday at the offices of the Rhode Island Association of Realtors. Chafee says the move is designed to make it easier for professionals and business owners to get the licenses and permits they need from the state.
Some 43,000 licensed individuals can use the system, which can be found on the state Department of Business Regulations' website, www.dbr.ri.gov.
Chafee says he wants the state to cut government red tape to make it easier to do business. He noted that most private businesses long ago began offering services online and it's time state governments catch up
