RI Navy kickbacks exec asks to delay sentencing

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training is conducting an education campaign to combat fraud in unemployment insurance, temporary disability and workers compensation.

Director Charles Fogarty is hosting a free workshop for employers Wednesday in Warwick on how to discourage and detect unemployment insurance fraud. State Police Superintendent Col. Steven O'Donnell and Attorney General Peter Kilmartin are expected to join the discussion.

The department is holding another fraud prevention workshop Oct. 23 for employers in Cranston.

And the department says it recently began financing a position in the attorney general's office to work exclusively on prosecuting fraud cases involving unemployment, temporary disability and workers' compensation.
