RI Student Tries to Cook Up New World Record

Ben Perry began cooking a variety of dishes Monday night and is hoping to hit 40 hours of nonstop cooking Wednesday afternoon. That would break the current Guinness World Record of 36 hours and 58 minutes for longest cooking marathon by an individual.

The 18-year-old senior at The Met School is cooking pasta and other dishes with donated ingredients at St. Basil's ChurchCulturalCenter in Lincoln and plans to serve hundreds of needy people at the Amos House in Providence.

The current Guinness record was set in 2012 by Rob Smink at a cooking school in the Netherlands.
