PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Providence Board of Licenses has voted to impose a three-day license suspension on a downtown nightclub following a rowdy event that sent several people to the hospital in September.
The board also voted on Wednesday to fine Roxy $7,000 over the gathering sponsored by a group called "I'm Shmacked."
Board Chairman Andrew Annaldo called the event extraordinary and said the chances of something bad happening were high given that hundreds of young people were "drunk and on drugs and laying in the street."
The fine is for violations including failure to maintain order, creating a public nuisance, disturbing the peace and failing to maintain supervision of patrons.
Annaldo says the punishments will send a message.
The license suspension will be from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
