JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Jack Reed and the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will visit the library in Johnston to raise awareness about the need to improve financial literacy.

Reed and Director Richard Cordray plan to meet with local officials at the Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library on Monday. The bureau is partnering with public libraries to ensure people have access to financial education tools and assistance on a variety of financial topics, from managing credit card debt to student loans.

Reed said he is looking forward to having Cordray in Rhode Island, to talk directly to people about the bureau's efforts to educate young people, protect seniors and help families improve their financial literacy.
