SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) _ The University of Rhode Island has hired an official at the University of California at Santa Cruz as its new vice president for administration and finance.
The Rhode Island Board of Education approved the appointment of Christina Valentino on Monday. She will serve as URI's senior operating officer, supporting the president and provost on all matters relating to the university's administration.
She begins her job on Oct. 1.
Valentino has worked for 20 years at UC Santa Cruz in administration, finance, human resources, strategic planning, development and other areas. She is currently special assistant to the chancellor.
Valentino succeeds Robert Weygand. URI President David Dooley says she will be a tremendous asset to his leadership team.
