Violence leads to Hearings for 2 RI Nightclubs

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Weekend shootings have led Providence authorities to suspend the liquor licenses of two city nightclubs.

WPRI-TV reports that the Providence Board of Licenses has scheduled hearings Monday afternoon to discuss Jovan's Lounge on Portland Street and Snub's on North Main Street.

Police say an officer shot and injured 24-year-old Duvall Carty after being called to a fight at Jovan's early Saturday. They say Carty fired at police during a foot chase and they returned fire.

Two people were injured a short time later in a shooting incident that began in the Snub's parking lot shortly after that club had closed for the night.

The Board of Licenses hearings are set for 1 p.m. Monday.
