Woman turns 110 in North Providence

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A Rhode Island woman has turned 110, with a birthday celebration at a North Providence nursing home.

The Providence Journal reports that Lillian Cardullo is believed to be the oldest resident of the state.

She was the guest of honor at a party Monday inside the Golden Crest Nursing Center.

Cardullo, who lived on her own in Providence until she was 104, says her secret to a long life is eating her own cooking.

Cardullo says she lived in Rhode Island most of her life, except for a brief time when she was 10-years-old and spent some time in Italy.

She quit school in the seventh grade to help support her family and was married for 33 years.
